Children’s Art Competition

Each year Bloomsbury Festival hold a children’s art competition, in association with the Sir Hubert von Herkomer Arts Foundation. For 2020 young people were asked to submit a work that imaginatively represented their vision of the future, 100 years from now. As part of the worlds next generation, children have an important role to play in shaping the future, so we’re thrilled to showcase some of their visions of what it may look like.

Alongside Lewis’ entry he wrote a poem to the Earth, a promise of what he would do to help protect it.

Dear Earth,

I’m writing to let you know that your future will change for better.

Please Read my letter and see what I have created. Let me know if you like it.

I have realized:

I can’t be happy if you are not.

I can’t be healthy if you are ill.

I can’t destroy you without getting destroyed.

Because I’m a part of you.

I live because you give air, water and food.

Without loving you and all the creatures, I can not be loved back.

I will work extremely hard to give you your life back.

I will inspire others to do the same.

And we can be whole again like you planned in the beginning.
